Another Hospital Visit

The flu I had at SITS kept coming and going and then I had some chest pains so went to the doctors expecting to get some antibiotics for a chest infection. He did an ECG in the surgery and then sent me up to A&E for some blood tests. At A&E a very strange, but quite chirpy nurse called Sylvia stuck some needles in me and said I’d have to wait around for a couple of hours for the results. Actually, I know Sylvia so I have to say she was a little strange. She was certainly quite chirpy though! Then I had to be pushed in a wheel-chair to the X-Ray room for a chest X-Ray and next thing I know I’m being admitted overnight again.

Lots more ECG’s, blood tests and an echo-caridogram later and they managed to rule out the possibility that I had had a mild heart attack. (Apparently doing MTB races with flu isn’t too good for you!).

I do have a chest infection which was what I thought but there is also possibly some mild-pericarditis again which could have been brought on by the chest infection so I’ve been told to take it easy for 4 weeks. (Quite what easy means though I’m not sure). I’ve also got to go back in for a proper echo-cardiogram and also a Exercise Treadmill Test, the latter of which I’m quite looking forward to. Looks as though the outcome is pretty much the same as last time I was there in March.

I did get to show lots of nurses my blue nipple though and there were a few rumours surrounding its cause going around the ward! Mind you I now have two similar sized bruises on my stomach from some particularly mean injections they gave me.

Thanks for all the well-wishes and to Sylvia for looking after me (along with all of the other nurses too of course). And thanks once again to Anna for running around after me, bringing in clothes, visiting me etc.

I’m still feeling very fluey at the mo and I’m not up to doing anything anyway, so taking it easy is OK for now, but it will be difficult once the flu goes!
