Westonbirt Aboretum Light Trail

We had our annual festive trip to Bristol at the weekend. With Friday off work, we took a leisurely drive down and headed into Yate to do some shopping. We needed masks and snorkels for the New Year and surprisingly managed to find some that looked suitable in Yate. We wandered around a few other shops and had a coffee too. The car was charging up a little as we did so.

We then headed off to my parent’s house for the evening and caught up with all the news. Saturday was a similarly leisurely day. The first stop for us was our new favourite charge point at Mollies Diner, where we had a nice brunch too. We then headed into the Mall where we wandered around the shops. We went into more shops that we usually do and even had a nice chat with a salesman in the Apple Store and one in the Polestar shop too. We didn’t organise a test drive even if they do look nice. I have a feeling they might be just a little too expensive for us.

We then headed back to collect my parents and drove to Old Sodbury where we had dinner at The Cross Hands with a small collection of the rest of the family. Not everyone was there as they rarely are these days. Dinner was good and then it was off to Westonbirt Arboretum for their Christmas Light Trail.

Westonbirt Christmas Light Trail

The trail itself was OK but not that impressive. The lights were nice but there was no real theme and nothing particularly spectacular. I’m quite used to wandering around the woods in the dark so that side of it wasn’t much of an experience for me. I can see how it might be exciting for the children but I think they could make more of it. That said, it was still a nice stroll with the family and something we wouldn’t have done if it weren’t for the illuminated trail.

There was also a ‘Christmas Market’. Although this was just several fast food trailers and some fairground rides. We did have a go on the dodgems but that was it. I had kind of hoped for a proper German-style Christmas market really. Oh well, it was still a nice evening out, and we were back home in time for a hot chocolate and an early night – we know how to party!!

Sunday was an easy drive home taking a route we’ve never taken before. We did stop off at the Three Shires Garden Centre to buy some fish for the aquarium and another Christmas Decoration. I think that’s us pretty much done now until Christmas. A bit more work and then we can relax and eat far too much!

I agree it was a shame there was not any sort of theme to the lights and certainly not a real Christmas Market but it was nice to have three generations out together but I think the younger, fourth generation, may have been a little bored to tell you the truth. I think they would like your Father Christmas waving from his sleigh though !
    Have a lovely Christmas
