Infection Control and Drugs Trial

Positive

It was inevitable really, but Anna is testing positive for Covid now as well. I guess it doesn’t really matter how careful we were it was going to happen when living in the same house. We did try the best we could:

  • Once Morgan and I were infected we were using a different bathroom.
  • Morgan stays isolated in his room under normal circumstances so there wasn’t much needed from that point of view.
  • Morgan and I tried to stay out of the kitchen – so Anna who was infection free was doing all the cooking!
  • I slept in the camper van so as not to share a bed with Anna, and then spent a few nights on the floor in the lounge.
  • We kept the windows and doors open as much as possible.
  • Hand-washing and other hygiene was increased.
  • Anti-viral wipes were used on surfaces and touch-points.
  • I spent most of the day out in the garden where I was less likely to infect anyone and we sat in the cold with the door open in the evenings.

Despite our best attempts it still got to all of us.

Fortunately so far the symptoms haven’t been too bad. Just the usual flu-like cold symptoms. A cough, headache, all over body aches and a sore throat. I also have a weird sense of smell, especially to things containing vinegar.

Morgan seems to have recovered fully. He is now testing negative and has gone back to school. I’m still positive, as is Anna. As luck would have it, the weather was gorgeous, so convalescing in the sun wasn’t too much of a chore. Especially as the garden is under control and looking good. I did have to move from the back garden to the front garden though to follow the sun and shelter from the wind! All the while, the lawn was being mowed daily for me thanks to Hector and Harriet our robot lawn-mowers.

Drugs Trial

I signed up to an anti-viral drugs trial. So, the day after signing up (which was the first day I tested positive), I received a special courier delivery of unlicensed drugs!

The trial was randomised and I got the actual anti-viral treatment. I have to take 4 capsules twice a day for 5 days and then fill in a diary of my symptoms every day. I obviously can’t tell if they are working or not as I may well have recovered at the same rate with or without them, but so far there have beeb no nasty side effects. Anna has signed up as well now that she is positive. We’ll see if she gets the treatment or not.

In many ways it’s better that we’ve all had it now as we have a holiday booked in a couple of weeks time. We’re hoping it can all be over and done with and we’ll be feeling fine in time for that.
