It’s Been a While

It’s been a while, but I finally got out windsurfing again today. Last time I was out was March 7th which for me is ages. In fact I’d have to say that it is easily the longest I’ve gone without windsurfing for the past 10 years. Would I remember how to do it?

It wasn’t exactly easy conditions either, 25-35 knot WSW winds and plenty of waves and white-water. I went out with my little JP Wave board and my 4.5m sail and I’m pleased to say that I could remember how to do it! My first run was fine, perfectly powered and going well. I did a few little jumps off the white-water on the inside just to check my skills were still there and then launched into a huge jump further out the back…. I still had it!!

Jumps and gybes were fine for the whole session and I was sailing well. I didn;t stay out long as my knee and ankle were a little sore and I’m always concerned about the possibility of injury from windsurfing these days. Now that I’m a ‘triathlete’ I feel as though I should look after myself a bit more and not do anything silly. Needless to say I didn’t throw myself into any forward loops or other crazy moves, but I did have a good time and it was good to get back out on the water.

Here’s a quick clip of my first run of the day. The jump at around 1:15 was a lot bigger than it looks.
