New Sofas & New Jobs

There’s not much happening here really – well, not much that will interest blog readers.

New Sofas

We did take delivery of two new sofas last week. We’d been waiting for them for a while and they are a little more grown up than our previous ones. We haven’t got completely comfortable with them yet and we had to rearrange the living room more than we were expecting. After years of measuring up and trying to find sofas that would fit where our previous sofas went, we finally found some that were the perfect dimensions. However, when they arrived we ended up putting them elsewhere anyway so the size probably wasn’t that important after all.

I’m not sure why, but sofas always seem to have a long lead time after ordering them and we ordered these back in June. They weren’t cheap either thanks to the fact that we went with some top-notch Norwegian quality sofas from Stressless! They look good and the fact that they recline means they have to be away from the walls. This makes the room look a little smaller but it’s still OK.

We’ve kept one of the old sofas in the living room so that Morgan has somewhere to sit as well, and the other old one has been relegated to the conservatory. Anna has managed a decent snooze on the new sofas already which gives them the seal of approval!

New Jobs

As well as new sofas, Anna and I both have new jobs too. Anna is on a year’s secondment within the same department at the University and will be a UKVI Assistant Registrar. She gets to move one office along the corridor I think and will be pretty much working with the same people.

I’m moving from a laboratory technician role in Sport & Exercise Science within the Department of Life Sciences, which until a few weeks ago was the Institute of Biological, Environmental and Rural Sciences (IBERS). I’ll now be back in IBERS itself but this time as a ‘Digital Content Manager’ for the Biomass Connect project. I’ve actually started already on a one-day-a-week contract while I work my notice in my current role. I’ll then start properly on a 22.5 hour contract which should allow me to continue with the freelance Pixlewave Web Design work as well.

I get to move a little further than just along the corridor as I’ll be in a different campus just outside of Aberystwyth. I should be able to work from home quite a bit too if I decide that works better. It’s also quite a big pay rise for me which has got to help, but it is only a 2.5 year contract at the moment – so I might have to retire at the end of it if it’s not extended!!

Other than that, it’s business as usual here with autumnal winds providing some good windsurfing conditions now and then and thoughts turning towards Christmas already!
