Weight Trend – Withings WS-50

Ooh, a new ‘Weight Trend’ screen has suddenly appeared on our Withings WS-50 Smart Body Analyser Scales. Ok, it’s not ground breaking news but it’s still quite nice to get an update to a pair of scales without asking for it.

Weight Trend Screen

The new weight trend screen is displayed after the weight measurement screen to show you the trend of your last 8 measurements. It also displays the difference between your latest measurement and the one before.

Auto Updates

As Wi-Fi connected scales, they connect to the internet every so often to upload our weight and other metrics to a web site that allows us to track our body composition over time. That Wi-Fi connection also allows for automatic firmware updates. Since writing a review of the Withings WS-50 Smart Body Analyser scales in January, there has been this recent update adding a weight trend screen and also an update that added a weather forecast screen to them. Yep, the scales tell us what the weather is going to do for the day as well doing all the things that a pair of scales should do.

Weather Forecast Screen

When you weigh yourself in the morning, the new weather forecast screen lets you know:

  • The weather and average temperature expected in the morning (between 6:00 AM and 12:00 PM)
  • The weather and average temperature expected in the afternoon (between 12:00 PM and 9:00 PM)

If you weigh yourself after 7:00 PM, it shows you the weather forecast for the next day.

And no, that wasn’t the forecast for today!

Based on your location, the scale connects to a partner service that specialises in weather forecasts. This data is then transferred and displayed on the screen of your scale. You do of course need to  make sure that you have set up the correct location within the Withings Health Mate app, and this screen is only displayed if you have set up your scale using Wi-Fi, as it needs to connect to the Internet to access the weather forecast service.

You can change the temperature unit from Celsius to Fahrenheit as well if you wish, or turn the screen off altogether from within the settings of the app too. I quite like having it there though and quite like to new weight trend screen as well.. Even if it was going the wrong way this morning!
