Which 12 Hour MTB Race?

I think I’m going to sign myself up to do a 12 hour solo Mountain Bike Race – Although it won’t be a ‘race’ for me, just a challenge to try to do it all without too much in the way of stops.

I’m not sure which one to go for though so any recommendations would be gladly accepted (just post a comment).

The main one on my radar at the moment is the Bontrager TwentyFour12 in Newnham Park, Plymouth. My brothers have signed up to do it as a team of 4 or 5 so they’ll be there anyway and it looks as though it is a well orgainsed and pretty big event so it should be fun. I’m not sure what the course is like though. As it’s my first 12 hour solo race then I’m hoping for something not too tough so that I can just plod around and enjoy it.

I love the look of the kids race at the beginning of this video as well, I’d best start training Morgan.

However the 12 hours of Exposure in May sounds pretty good too.

I guess I’d better make my mind up and get entered before they fill up, and then better start some training for it, especially as I’ve now posted this here letting everyone know of my intentions!

Well, that’s it – I’ve signed up for the Bontrager TwentyFour12 in Plymouth – The 12 hour version of course as this will be my first solo endurance event of this kind.

I’d better start some training, although about 5 minutes after pressing the ‘enter’ button my right knee started hurting. I did have to sign up in the ‘Vets (40+)’ category though so I guess aches and pains are all part of the ‘experience’.

Should also mention that my brothers, Jay and Brad and friends Matt and Pete are down to do the same 12 hour race as a team. It would be nice if I could match their laps as a soloist – It’s not likely to happen but it would be nice!
