Bonsai Seedlings

I don’t think I can quite call these bonsai trees yet, but I’m quite impressed with how well they’ve grown. They were all grown from seeds that came from a bonsai seed kit that Morgan bought me for Christmas last year. The seeds were labelled as ‘mixed bonsai’ which didn’t give me much confidence. I was quite surprised when they germinated in April, and now that they’ve had a season of growing they are looking quite a bit bigger.

That’s not too bad for a single year from seed. I did try wiring one of them to add some movement to the trunk, but it grew so fast that it left some scars from the wire. I think, seeing as it’s such a young ‘tree’ the wounds will soon heal and grow over. If anything they might add some gnarly character to the bark.

The challenge now will be to keep them alive and turn them into real bonsai trees over the coming years.
