Double Dipping in the Hedgerows

I picked a whole load of succulent blackberries from the hedgrows at the weekend. Free, health food, what is there not to like about that!

Better still, I’m pretty sure that the majority of our bumper honey harvest this year came from nectar from the flowers on these blackberry bushes.

Honey Harvest

I can’t be sure of course but it’s the closest area of flowers to our bee hives, they were covered in honey bees earlier in the year whilst flowering and the honey flow in our hives corresponded to the flowering of these blackberries. It would seem to make sense that this is where it came from.

So, as far as we are concerned they’ve provided us with plenty of honey, our bees pollinated them and that meant that there is plenty of fruit for us too. The perfect hedgwrow harvest to satisfy our sweet tooth!
