An Evening with Sir Ranulph Fiennes

That was something a little different for us – An evening with Sir Ranulph Fiennes in the Arts Centre here in Aberystwyth.

Rather than head home after work we stayed in Aberystwyth and popped into Byrgyr for dinner, and a pudding burger of course and then headed to the Arts Centre for a talk by Sir Ranulph Fiennes. It has to be said that he wasn’t the most natural of public speakers and did feel a little wooden at times but I guess spending most of your adult life on adventures all around the world means that being on a stage in front of a large audience isn’t really part of your comfort zone. It also didn’t really matter when you have lived a life full of adventure and record breaking feats. With so many interesting and amusing stories to tell the delivery isn’t that important.

Now, I’m all for adventures, I like travelling the world, I enjoy the challenge of a mountain and I don’t mind a bit of cold, but I think I’ll draw the line at extreme frost bite and amputations. As for 8 months doing next to nothing in a cardboard hut in Antarctica, I don’t think I could cope with that!
