The Rame Peninsula – Camping Trip Day 4
The last day of our holiday already, and typically we awoke to find a thick sea mist had soaked everything. Thankfully, by the time we had been for a swim in the swimming pool, cooked, and eaten pancakes things were drying out nicely and the sun was out. It was forecast to be hot today so we waited until everything was completely dry and then packed our camp away. It didn’t take long and everything was put away neatly so as to make it easy to unpack once we got home.
We then headed off to Edgecumbe House and ‘Adventure Segway’ where we had a Segway session booked. We parked by the church of St Mary and St Julian and walked down through the park to the house. It was now sweltering.
We were a little early so we wandered around the grounds and a few of the shops and then returned to the Segway place.
We were the only ones in our session today which was nice. We had the obligatory safety talks and then some basic instruction on how to use the Segway. We had a little bit of practise and then a few circuits of an obstacle course to complete before the speed restrictions were taken off and we were allowed out into the big wide world of Edgecumbe Park.
We were led around by our guide who also told us some of the history of the place and chatted as we went.
The Segways were easy to control and good fun too. Morgan seemed to be loving it, Anna was having fun too and with just the three of us in the group it was a lovely family activity.
We had an extra bit of a tour as well as we had time to spare. This took us up to the top of the park for some amazing views out over the breakwater.
As we were heading back down to the centre, Morgan over-cooked it a little whilst weaving back and forth and managed to fall off and get run over by his Segway. His knee was bleeding, his calf was scuffed and his pride damaged. We were pretty much back and finished by now though so he jumped back on and was patched up once we got back. His leg is a little sore now but he’ll be OK.
We had lunch in the café and then started making our way back to my parents house. We took the Torpoint Ferry back to Plymouth and then had a long slow drive along the M5, stuck in traffic most of the way. A night at my parents house was followed by another long drive home on Saturday. First we went to the Mall though for the second of Morgan’s Young Driver lessons. This was very similar to the first as far as the set up goes and Morgan seemed to be driving well and enjoying it. We had a little walk around the shops at The Mall and then headed home. We had to go via Caerphilly to drop some clothes off that Chris had accidentally left at the race last weekend. We therefore took a different if somewhat slower route home, eventually getting home some time around 5:30pm where we unpacked and had a nice roast chicken dinner.
The end of what had been a varied and fun holiday. My foot had prevented me from doing some of the activities I had planned but it seemed quite a lot better now and we still packed plenty in. It’s just a shame we have to go back to work.
