A Trio of Treasure Hunts

That was a fun Easter Sunday, The Easter Bunny had visited and left a whole load of eggs and the customary treasure hunt.

The hunt seems to get more difficult each year just to challenge Morgan so today’s had a whole host of clues and codebreaking to do. Morgan got there in the end though, even if it did involve a trip into Aberystwyth in order to get a connection to the Internet in order to look up some Morse Code. We couldn’t do that at home as the phone lines have been down since Thursday and therefore we don’t have any email, Internet or phone connection at the moment. We don’t have mobile reception at home either.

We had planned a trip to Aberystwyth though in order to do the second treasure hunt of the day organised by Isaac’s sweet shop. This one was a little more difficult but we soon got our eye in and got the hang of it as it took us on a little tour of Aberystwyth. We weren’t that fast but we did manage to answer all of the questions and we think we got most (maybe all) of them right. We did get fairly wet doing it though as it rained a fair bit and there was a cold wind blowing off the sea too. We bought some sweets and fudge and then headed off to Coffee#1 for lunch and to warm up.

We then headed home but decided to drive straight past out house and out onto the sands of Ynyslas as there was also a treasure hunt being organised by the Ynyslas Nature Reserve. This one was a pirate themed treasure hunt so we collected the question sheet, the treasure map and a compass and set off into the dunes. For some reason this one became a race so we jogged our way around overtaking loads of other groups of treasure hunters as we stopped to solve the clues and collect the booty. Mermaids purses, oyster shells, arctic clams, stick and pebbles. We then got caught in a vicious hailstorm that forced us to take shelter for a minute or two. Shorts were definitely a bad idea and the hailstones felt like little daggers. Anna said they were hurting her legs through her jeans whereas Morgan and I had shorts on so we were jumping around in pain like a pair of fools.

Once the hailstorm had passed the sun came out so after a quick selfie we jogged on to the last clue and then back to the visitor centre to finish in a time of 18 minutes and 56 seconds – not bad going I don’t think as I’m sure most people were taking an hour or more.

Three successful treasure hunts in one day.

Oh I see, we don’t leave anything for him……….maybe that’s why we don’t get as many as you.
