Riding on Knobblies for the Sake of it
It’s been a while but I finally got out on my mountain bike last night. About time too really with the Coed y Brenin Enduro just over a week away. It was my first night ride for years too, but I charged my battery, put my light on my helmet, checked my bike – the one I had planned to use wasn’t up to it, but the other one was – and met a couple of guys up at Pendam.
I was out riding with Dave and Dylan who I hadn’t met before, so we all made our usual excuses as to why we’d be slow! I hadn’t been on a MTB for ages, Dave was riding a bike with the brakes the wrong way around and was out on his first night ride and Dylan was on a borrowed bike. We therefore stayed close to home on familiar trails and rode around the Summit Trail.
It was nice to be in the hills on a lovely night. It was very dark with thick cloud and no moon, but was pleasantly warm so there was no need for more than a T-shirt and shorts which was good. It was also a nice change to be riding just for the sake of riding rather than out training. Maybe it was the fact that I didn’t have to go hard, maybe it was just the fact that there was no agenda or maybe it was just a change but it did feel good.
