Despite having to compete with an almost full moon, we were greeted with loads of moths in the trap this morning. Temperatures only dropped to 16.2ºC and winds were light.
As well as loads of Caddis Flies and quite a few nice looking micro moths (that I didn’t record), I managed to record 143 moths from 33 species, although a number got away as well before we could identify and count them.
Here’s the full list and some photos.
The Burnished Brass and Cloaked Carpet are new garden records for us. The Burnished Brass was amazing. It’s hard to see in the photo but it has an iridescent shiny metallic brassy yellow pattern on its forewing. The Cloaked Carpet is interesting too as it isn’t very common.

Is that some sort of record for you? How many do you usually get?
I don’t think it’s a record, I’m sure we’ve had over 200 before now. The numbers all depend on the time of the year and the weather though. July and August are usually the busiest months.
