Now thats what I call lunch

We hadn’t been to the Marine Hotel in Aberystwyth for their Sunday Carvery for ages but as my parents were here for the weekend, it was nearly Morgans birthday and we didn’t do anything for Valentines Day we thought we’d treat ourselves.

Last time we went we were impressed, especially with the puddings so were looking forward to it all weekend. We tried our best to save ourselves for it and I went for a run and a swim on Sunday  morning. I skipped the usual post-workout bacon sandwich and coffee at the leisure centre and instead went home and headed into Aberystwyth with everyone for a walk along the prom.

It was then into the Marine for a feast of eipc proportions. We skipped the starter this time though so that we could make the most of the puddings, but once we got going on the main course we did of course go a little over the top. I of course had to try some of everything and they don’t really do small portions of any of it, so on the plate it went: Roast Beef, Roast Pork, Roast Lamb, Roast Turkey and Roast Gammon, the meat piled up and on top of that went sausages, bacon, roast potatoes and  yorkshire puddings. Once back at our table the vegetables had been delivered but there just wasn’t room on the plate for them so we had to eat some of the meat first before piling on the carrots, peas, mashed potatoes, cauliflower cheese, cabbage, gravy, apple sauce and cranberry sauce.  Mmm, Mmm, it was all delicious, but I think my favourite meats were the turkey and the gammon.

It was then onto the amazing pudding table with too much to choose from as per usual. The things I chose were pre-sliced into quite large pieces so once again there were no small options so that I could try little bits. Nope, it was all or nothing but they had to be tried. I had strawberry cheesecake, chocolate cheesecake, chocolate trifle, pavlova, lemon meringue pie, another slice of strawberry cheesecake and more chocolate trifle…. Each one with loads of cream on… There was plenty of other things to choose from too, trifle, gateaux, jelly, tiramisu, fruit, apple pie, rice pudding, bread and butter pudding and it all looked lush! I didn’t try them all, but what I did try was lovely and I only wish I could have fitted more in. I don’t dare estimate the number of calories I consumed mind as I’m sure each slice of pudding of around 4-500 calories and I had 7 of them.

Pudding!

Pudding!

We then had a birthday cake brought out for Morgan and sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to him. He knew nothing about this and looked pretty surprised and pleased all at the same time as it was delivered to the table.

I didn’t stop there though because once I got back home I finished it all off with a coffee and a slice or two of chocolate birthday cake, before chilling on the sofa for the afternoon…. Nice! 🙂

Once again we can thoroughly recommend a carvery at the Marine Hotel, just go prepared to over-indulge!
