Today’s Diet Plan

Following on from my post about tracking my diet, I thought I’d post a list of what I’ve been eating, so here’s my food diary from Monday.. A typical day in the life of Alan.

Breakfast

  • 1 portion of M&S Delicious Nutty Crunch cereal
  • 3 tablespoons of yoghurt – homemade with skimmed milk
  • 1 mug latte – homemade with unsweetened Soya Milk

Mid Morning

  • 1 mug latte – homemade with unsweetened Soya Milk

Lunch

  • 2 slices of Sunflower and Pumpkin Seed Wholemeal bread
  • 1 smoked mackerel fillet
  • 1 handful of home grown salad leaves
  • 6 home grown cherry tomatoes
  • half home grown green pepper
  • half home grown cucumber
  • 250 ml Beet-it Organic Beetroot Juice

Mid Afternoon Snack

  • 1 persimmon fruit
  • 1 banana
  • 1 pear

Dinner

  • Spinach & Feta Pie – Home grown Spinach, Feta Cheese, Eggs, Filo Pastry, Cheddar Cheese
  • Raw,  grated carrots
  • Boiled Home Grown  New Potatoes
  • Homemade Smoothie – Pear, Home grown blackcurrants, Home grown raspberries, Orange Juice
  • 6 Cherries

Supper

  • Toasted Sunflower and Pumpkin Seed Bread (2 slices)
  • 1 tbsp Lemon Cheese
  • Mug Instant Hot Chocolate

Not a bad day really and I’m loving the fact that so much of it is fresh, quality, home grown produce. The fact that I’m tracking my diet means that I probably ate quite a lot less than I would if I weren’t keeping a record. According to my current diet tracking app of choice, MyFitnessPal, that ended up being:

  • Calories: 2357 kcal with 56% from carbs, 31% from fat and 12% from protein.
  • Carbs: 359 grams
  • Fat: 87 grams
  • Protein: 82 grams
  • Sugar: 128 grams
  • Salt: 2001 mg
As I said though, this was a fairly good day and I didn’t do any training so food intake was much lower than usual. The day before my calorie intake was almost double this at 4278 kcal, but I did swim for an hour in the pool, cycle for 90 minutes and swim for 25 minutes in the sea.
It may seem silly and I won’t track my diet indefinitely, but doing it every now and then for a week or so helps to keep me on track and makes me think about what I’m actually eating. For me, having a record of such things helps me keep it under control and also shows me where I should and could make changes.
