Elephant Hawkmoth Photos
One of the new species from last nights moth catch was an Elephant Hawkmoth (Deilephila elpenor). It is quite an iconic species, and rightly so with its stunning pink and tan colours. My earlier photos of it just didn’t do it justice, so here are a few more of a slightly fresher specimen now that I’ve had some time to take some shots in the sunshine.
Hope you like them.
i had one fly into my house
it is quite a cute insect
I have just spent the last 30 minutes with the Elephant Hawk Moth. It was beautiful and difficult to entice out of the house, once in. How common are they in this country and in the area of the Midlands. I have never seen any moth quite like it.
Hi Carli,
They are quite spectacular aren’t they. They aren’t rare though its just that few people see them. A friend had 33 of them in her trap the other night!
