Plight of the Bees

Bee

Scientists have warned that the loss of bees could be a blow to UK economy, that would cost up to £440m per year.

If that’s the case, then why can’t the government offer grants to people like me who want to set up a beehive (or two) in the garden. The £500 or so that will cost me is quite a bit to me. But in light of the predicted costs to the economy  highlighted in the above BBC article it’s nothing at all.

Admittedly a hive or two in my back garden wouldn’t make a huge difference to the plight of the bees but every little bit helps and I’m sure if the government offered grants to people interested in keeping bees, more people would have hives in their garden. It’s also likely that those people would encourage others to grow bee friendly plants etc and maybe we could make a difference.
