Social Media Amalgamation

Fed up with posting the same stuff to Twitter, Facebook and Google+. Me too, in fact I barely bothered with Google+ as IĀ couldn’t be bothered to post there as well as elsewhere, but I’ve just come across a Chrome Plugin that not only allows me to see everything from my Facebook Stream and Twitter Stream within Google+ but also allows me to interact with it all too.

All of my social media (almost) in one place can’t be bad. It’s called Start Google+ (SGPlus) and can be found here. There are plugins for Firefox and Safari as well as Chrome. I’m still trialling it, but once you install the extension you simply allow it to login to your Facebook account and Twitter account (and your linked in account if you wish). You can then set up a few settings and hey presto it all seems to work.

Posts that appear on my usual Facebook stream now appear merged into my Google+ Stream, as do Twitter posts. Each has their own little icon next to them so you can see where they came from, and you can filter them to see just one stream at a time if you’d prefer. Best of all I can retweet Twitter posts from within Google+ and comment on Facebook posts from within Google+ too. I can also of course post to all three at the same time just by posting once to Google+.

The downside of course is that I now have to use Google+ rather than either Facebook or Twitter, but I’m sure once I get used to it that will be fine as the interface seems nice and clean and not too cluttered. The same can’t be said for some of the latest Facebook updates which are just plain confusing. It’s a win for Google of course as it seems to be the best way for me to keep up to date with 3 social media streams at once and will move me towards Google+.

So, this new plugin may well convince me to start using Google+ properly whilst still keeping my presence on Facebook and Twitter up to date. Hopefully I won’t miss anything, but I’ll let you know how I get on with it.
