Wet Windy Wild Wales

Christmas is over and the New Year is here… HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

The last few days of the holiday were pretty wild here. Winds gusting to 54 knots and some mad mad storms, rain, hail, thunder, lightning, you name it we have had it.

Steve came to visit on Saturday and we had planned to go windsurfing but there wasn’t quite enough wind so we headed of into the hills geocaching instead. I took the back road to Nant-y-Moch which is pretty windy and precipitous at times and then we headed off in the pouring rain to find a couple of letterbox hybrid geocaches. We were soon wet through nad had to negotiate a few mountain streams We found the first cache without too much difficulty and then headed off deeper into the wilds for the next one. Steve managed to sink up to his waist in a boggy area but after negotiating a few more streams we found the next cache. We were now really wet and a little cold so on went an extra layer and we headed back. The streams had now turned into raging torrents and there was no way across the final one so we had no ooption but to wade through it.

Now, we thought we were wet before doing this, but it is surprising just how much wetter a quick dip in a river can make you. All in all a good day in the hills though ans we will be back for more soon.

By Sunday the wind had picked up so off we went windsurfing. To be honest it was a little too windy, but fun all the same.

New Years Eve was spent at home although I did pop out in the afternoon to hide a new geocache on the banks of the River Cletwr. the evening was spent with Dave and Sarah and then on New Years Day we met up with lots of the Ynyslas locals for a dip in the see and a gathering at Chris and Margi’s I didn’t feel any need to jump in the sea for no reason (It wasn’t windy enough to windsurf) so I abstained, as of course did Anna who is far to sensible for such antics.

So 2007 is here, it is still wet and windy and we are all back at work… It must be time to start planning a holiday!
