Tumble driers, electrics and parents

It’s been a busy week here in our simple life of luxury.. We decided as winter was approaching to add to the luxury and splash out on a tumble drier. We of course bought the only ‘A’-rated model available which apparently uses 50% less energy than other models even though on that setting it takes a full 8 hours to dry a load!.. Th eco-friendly, hippy-culture so prevalent in this part of the world has rubbed off on us.
We’ll (Anna will) still do the washing at the launderette as our lack of drains and therefore running water means that we can’t do it here, but we’ll now be able to dry our clothes in the tumble drier… Sophisticated hey!. It will also mean we have a spare room again rather than having it full of clothes-horses all the time.

Well, the tumble driere arrived, we plugged it in and ‘ploof’ all of our electrics went down. We eventually traced this to a dodgy socket so plugged it in elsewhere and ‘what a racket’, it sounds as though the tumble drier has a bag of spanners in it. Time to send it back! Apparently though we have to run it in for 30 minutes first just to see if the noise goes away. It hasn’t done so yet, so it could mean we have to wait in yet again for another delivery.

All of this means the house is in chaos at the moment and my parents are arriving for a couple of days this evening… Looks as though today will be a little hectic.

Still, we’ve been having some lovely clear frosty autumnal days lately and I plan on taking my parents out for a geocahcing trip tomorrow, so lets hop the weather holds. Before we go though we’ll have to find time to drill a hole in the side of the house for the tumble drier vent and fix the electrics.
