A New Half Marathon PB

Whilst away for the weekend at Steve and Biddy’s Wedding I at far too much – Well, one measure of a good celebration should be calories consumed thanks to beer, food and cakes, and if it is, then this was a good celebration!

I therefore wanted to make sure I got my scheduled Sunday morning run in so got up at 5am and went for a run from the B&B we were staying in. I had scoped out the area and had seen a few hills that I wanted to head towards in order to do 8x 3 minute hill reps on them. However, after weaving my way through the lanes of rural Shropshire I never quite managed to find the hills so instead decided to simply continue on and do a long steady run. The idea of a half marathon distance run started creeping into my head. I’ve only ever run half marathon distance once before, so I kept the intensity low and the pace steady. I was feeling OK though, despite the over-indulgences of the day before and actually managed to finish off quite strongly.

My final half marathon time without really putting in any effort was 1:35:51 which isn’t too bad consider how easy it felt and was a new personal record for the distance. I even managed to get a Strava Segment Course Record on the Condover Industrial Estate Climb, although I thought that the run was pretty flat myself!

Hopefully that burnt off a few of the calories from the multiple lunches and dinners the day before, although I soon replaced them all with more food than a single person should be able to eat at breakfast in the hotel!
