Scarlet Tiger Moth 0

Scarlet Tiger Moth

I just spotted this whilst out in the garden so snapped a couple of quick shots of it. It’s a Scarlet Tiger moth. It isn’t particularly rare or special, but who cares when it looks like this. You don’t have to be ‘into moths’ to appreciate the colours on this one.

Wotton Triathlon 2011

Well, it’s almost upon us again, this weekend sees the 2nd ever Wotton Triathlon, and once again I’m supposed to be ‘competing’. I was talked into it last year by my sister, at which time it was my first triathlon for about 20 years. I did OK though coming first overall which can’t be bad....

Our Bees Have Swarmed – We Think

After some pretty poor weather for the bees last week, Friday was a scorcher – 25ºC and wall to wall sunshine and it was our normal day to do a hive inspection, exactly 7 days after the last one. We were hoping the bees would be out and about all day in the sunshine and...

Making your own yoghurt

Making your own yoghurt – who’d have thought it could be so easy, so cheap and so delicious! We’ve been making our own yoghurt for a while now and I can’t seem to get enough of it. We started off with an Easiyo kit which is essentially a 1 litre plastic pot to make the...

Moths in June

After a gorgeous day on the beach and then an evening Mountain Bike ride on Thursday there was an amazing mist hanging over Borth Bog on my way home, a spectacular sunset, and no wind. It looked like perfect weather for moths so I put the moth trap out. I’ve been a little lax with...

122 million miles on the clock

The Space Shuttle Endeavour touched down after it’s last mission this week with an amazing 122 million miles on its clock. And I thought my car was doing well with 122 thousand miles! Pretty impressive stuff and a shame that it has to come to an end, but hopefully it will pave the way for...

I’ve got a triathlon to do tomorrow so it’s time to write myself a checklist for the kit I’ll need to pack in the car. There’s no point keeping it to myself though so here it is in case you need it as well. Swim Tri-suit Goggles Spare goggles just in case – I’m good at...

A summer’s evening ride

We had a lovely Mountain Bike ride last night and it was nice to see a number of new faces on the ride as well. We met at our usual spot near to Angler’s Retreat. As well as myself, there was Pete, who is now a regular rider having started riding with us last year,...

Being Tourists

What a scorcher! It felt like summer yesterday and with Morgan off school and Anna having a day off work I decided to join them and we headed across to the beach first thing in the morning. Morgan and I headed off in the inflatable canoe whilst Anna sat on the beach relaxing and reading...
