Tales from a down-shifted family

If you don’t know by now, you should, but I’ve qualified for the ITU Age-Group World Triathlon Championships that take place next month in Auckland, New Zealand. It’s going to be a trip of a lifetime, but getting ourselves there in order to compete isn’t going to be cheap so I’ve been looking for potential sponsors. It isn’t...
I wasn’t really sure how this race was going to go. It was quite a big race being my one and only chance to qualify for the 2013 European Championships, but preparations hadn’t been great. I’d been training well but hadn’t necessarily peaked for this race, and I’d been struggling with injuries. The Injury List First...
The full results from yesterday’s Rother Valley Triathlon are out. Click here to read my Rother Valley Triathlon Race Report. I was first in my age group with an official time of 1:13:42 My official splits were: Swim (750m): 10:43 T1: 1:03 Bike (25.5km): 43:34 T2: 0:45 Run (5km): 17:39 I’m happy with that and...
I don’t know if it is just my usual pre-race pains but I seem to be falling apart at the moment. My left ankle is always sore. I tore some ligaments in it about 18 months ago and the soreness and aches used to come and go but recently they seem to be there all...

I hadn’t really intended to do the Isle of Man End2End MTB Race this year. I’ve been concentrating on Triathlons instead and have therefore hardly been out on a Mountain Bike at all. However, we had been invited to a family wedding on the island on Saturday Sept. 8th and the Isle of Man End2End...
As per usual my next ‘race’ has come around sooner than anticipated – The Isle of Man End2End Challenge take place this weekend. It’s a 75km mountain bike race from the Northern tip of the Isle of Man to the Southern tip with plenty of big hills in between. I’m not actually ‘racing it’ and...
One of the things coaches and experts in the field of sports training seem to be talking about these days is the fact that most of us tend to take the hard workouts too easy and even more so, the easy workouts too hard.In effect we end up doing almost all of our workouts at...
You have to stay positive when injured – if you don’t, you’d just get depressed and this sport malarky is supposed to be fun. Of course, an injury is never much fun and the rehabilitation period is frustrating. Most of us just want to get back out there running again and all we can think...
I really shouldn’t have done it, I know I shouldn’t, but I couldn’t help myself. It was my second run after a few weeks off due to a knee injury so I should have been taking it easy. My training schedule had me down to do the following: Run: 60 min steady with 2x 6...
