There wasn’t very much exciting in the moth trap last night, so here are a few more photos of the Eyed Hawkmoth from yesterday just to show what a beast he was with his horns and mohawk!
And here’s another pretty impressive moth I missed from this morning.
With rain forecast for later in the night I wasn’t sure whether to put the moth trap out, but in the end decided to risk it. It was fine in the end as I was up at 4am so able to get the trap in before it started raining properly. There was a nice selection...
I’ve just had a stroll around the garden. Everything is coming along nicely and there are quite a few new flowers out today as well, so I took some snaps of them with my little compact camera.
I don’t know if it’s just that I’m noticing them more this year but I’ve just found another caterpillar crawling across the path. This one looks like the larvae of a Drinker Moth to me.
I’ve just found a little caterpillar on the honeysuckle, looking for all the world like a little twig. Perfect camouflage, so much so that he almost got pruned along with the other dead twigs. Having looked through some books, it looks most likely to be the caterpillar of an Engrailed Moth.
I put the moth trap out last night and then went out and sat by it. It seemed more as though I was feeding the bats though as there were loads of them about, swooping down and flying under the pergola and then circling around the moth trap. I didn’t get to see them close...
The weather looked perfect for putting the moth trap out last night, mild, still and a little cloudy. The temperature only dropped to 13.1ºC overnight and there was barely any wind. I put the trap out and sat out there with it for a bit listening to the bats squeaking as they flew past and...
