A ‘Proper’ Bank Holiday Weekend – Garden DIY

Working in The Garden

Bank Holiday Garden Project

I don’t normally do Bank Holiday weekends as I never used to have the chance. When I worked as a Zookeeper then Bank Holidays were always very busy so there was no chance of a day off. The same was true whilst I was a Beach lifeguard in North Devon, and as a student in Aberystwyth, the university didn’t really do Bank Holidays, and everyday was a holiday anyway!

Since being a Freelance Website Designer, Bank Holidays haven’t had much of an impact either and living here on the beach means that things can get busy on Bank Holidays so we tend to hide away and I quite often work rather than take the day off.

This weekend just gone though I joined the masses and spent most of it working in the garden. This involved a couple of trips to the garden centre / DIY stores and lots of digging, shifting of earth and finally tidying up. We even made a trip to the tip, which also seems to be a thing that people do on Bank Holiday Mondays!

As well as tidying up the garden, I’ve been working on a plan to create a new, fairly large flower bed in the middle of one part of the garden and install a raised, gravelled seating area at one end of this. It took quite a bit of work, not helped by the fact that I had a cold so felt a little under-the-weather, but its getting there and I think it will look nice.

I guess it wouldn’t be a proper Bank Holiday without a garden DIY project.
