Machynlleth Lantern Parade and Fireworks 2011

Despite the weather we decided to go to the lantern parade and fireworks in Machynlleth over the weekend.

I’d been to the Aberdovey Windsurf Demo during the day and hadn’t had much luck there with the weather as there wasn’t enough wind and as we left for the lantern parade it started raining. Once in Machynlleth it was raining quite a bit so we got quite wet whilst waiting for the parade, but as the street lights went out and the lanterns started making their way along the main road, the rain eased off so things were looking up.

The actual parade seemed quite short this year and there weren’t quite as many big lanterns as usual but some of them were still pretty good and it’s nice to see the children with their lanterns too.

As per usual it was then off to the field for the fireworks. It started raining properly again now so rather than do the normal procession around the field and a  prolonged prize-giving for the lanterns there was a quick prize-giving and then straight nto the fireworks. The fireworks were pretty impressive as they always are and everyone seemed to enjoy them. I didn’t realise until the end but we had been stood next to Owain from the Triathlon club so I had a quick chat with him and asked if he was doing the aquathlon the next day (which he was) and then we headed home to dry off.

For a change we had been on our own and didn’t see a whole hoard of Morgan’s friends. The lanterns and fireworks were good and it’s always a nice little event at this time of year whilst the nights are long and the temperatures dropping.

Didn’t see you there Al! It was our first time and we loved it. I think it’ll be a bit of a family tradition for us from now on, starting off as we did on Saturday with a pizza in the Wynnstay. Best pizzeria in west Wales by far.
