Another busy weekend for us. We like it that way but now and then it would be nice to have a quiet one as well. Yesterday we had visitors coming for lunch, so after taking Morgan swimming for an hour or so we busied ourselves getting ready for that. Marion and Les turned up around...
Just some flowers from the garden. The Agapanthus have started flowering, and a stand of sunflowers have appeared from nowhere. We didn’t plant them so we can only assume that the seeds came either from the compost bin or the bird feeders. They seem to be doing well though and are now in flower.
As you may remember, on our Anniversary day out in Welshpool, Anna and I spent more money than we had planned and came back with a water feature for the garden. We bought it from Derwen Garden Centre which was where we spent most of our day. They were all very helpful and we’re planning...
Our plans for keeping bees are progressing well. Regular readers of this blog will know that we’ve been attending meetings of the Aberystwyth Beekeepers Association. Despite our concerns that the windy, slightly barren nature of the local surroundings may not be ideal for bees, we’ve been encouraged by members of the association and are going...
Our vegetables have been growing well in the garden. So much so that despite giving as many away as possible we still have a glut of courgettes. There are only so many courgettes a man can eat. That is until Anna turns them into courgette cake of course. From whence there was a healthy, organically...

Our plans were to get all the equipment ready over the winter and start beekeeping in Spring 2011, but I had an e-mail from someone in the Aberystwyth Beekeeping Association the other day saying: “Alan I am interested in taking one hive to the heather to...
What a productive day we’ve had today. I was up at 4am to investigate the contents of the moth trap. I then did a little bit of work and then after coffee and a quick catch up with Anna and Morgan it was time to start tackling the garden. It wasn’t that bad out there...
The garden seems to have survived the recent winds. There was a little bit of damage to a few things but now that I’ve tidied them up they look fin. Some of the veggies are a little wind burnt too but some emergency stacking here and there seemed to keep most things looking fine. Morgan...
It was pretty windy last night. We’re used to the wind here and it is quite often windier than you can imagine but it’s been so long since we’ve had any proper wind that it actually kept us a wake last night. According to the Borth and Ynyslas Weather Station it hit 46.9 knots which...
