Checking out the new Taliesin Coast Path
Recovery weeks are always difficult for me – I get itchy feet not being able to do as much exercise as I’d like. I eat too much and put on weight. And somehow I manage to get injured whilst doing very little. This week I’ve managed to pull a muscle in my back. I was just out for a gentle run on Friday morning when it went into spasm and has been sore ever since.
The fact that I was on a recovery week meant that I had two whole days over the weekend with no training sessions planned. By Saturday afternoon I’d had enough though and just had to get out and do something. I had hoped to surf ski but didn’t think carrying the ski around and then paddling would do my back any good. Instead I convinced Anna to come out for a little walk with me. We decided to check out the new bit of coast path near Taliesin. The path has been improved recently and was supposed to be nicely surfaced.
Taliesin Coast Path
Last time I ran across the bog from Borth to Taliesin along the Coast Path it was very wet and boggy. I also managed to tear a ligament in my ankle whilst running across an uneven field. This part of the path has now been upgraded though and has a nice solid surface with good drainage. It’s completely different. Very easy to walk along and no mud in sight. It also has a new fence alongside it so that you can keep out of the fields with livestock in them.
It looks a little stark at the moment as it’s quite new, but I’m sure it’ll bed in and start to feel part of the landscape soon.
It was a nice day out there as well with nowhere near as much wind as we were expecting and nice sunny skies too.
The path did run out after half a mile or so though and ended at a gate into a boggy looking field.
We hadn’t come equipped for too much mud so headed back here. You still can’t get all the way across the big without getting wet feet and some parts further on were particularly boggy last time I traversed it. But then again, soggy feet and mud are all part of the fun!
