Mince Pies, Mulled Wine, Spectacles and Special Sweet Tokens in Aberystwyth

Yet more festive celebrations here in Aberystwyth. I work from home as a Freelance Website Designer on Monday’s and Tuesdays and then work at the Univeristy as a Lab Technician Wednesday to Friday. So,after seeing Anna and Morgan off to school and work on Monday morning, I did a whole load of chores around the now very Christmassy house, then caught up with some website work. I didn’t have a full day at home though as I had also been invited to a ‘Mulled Wine and Mince Pie reception’ at Old College.

This has been an annual event for a few years now where certain members of University staff get nominated for “having made a particularly strong contribution this year”. We’ve done quite well out of this as Anna has been invited for the past two years and has taken me along as her ‘plus 1’. This year, I had been nominated and therefore invited to the event and of course took Anna along as my plus 1.

I therefore headed into town sometime around mid afternoon. I met Morgan from school and we went to Specsavers where he collected his new glasses. He looks quite good in them!

We then headed up to campus so that we could get a gingerbread Latte and a free Christmassy Cake. Ta med had an offer on today and all we had to do was show them a token and the free cake was ours. An offer too good to miss!

We then met Anna from work and headed down to Old College for the mince pies and mulled wine. We were also treated to carols by the Sgarmes choir. After our reception we took a quick look around the hinterland exhibition and then went for a wander around town.

Our favourite sweetshop, Isaacs on Pier Street in Aberystwyth have hidden a load of tokens around Aberystwyth. Each token is worth something between 20p and £20. So, we decided to have a fruitless but not aimless a walk around Aberystwyth. The aim was very much to find a token, but we had no joy. We didn’t really know where to start but I think Morgan is quite into it now so no doubt next week, when he is off school and I’m off work, we will be spending our days traipsing the streets of Aberystwyth!
