Moth Trapping – Like Christmas Every Day

This moth trapping malarky is like Christmas morning every day. I wake up early before everyone else, get the trap in from the garden and then have to wait around for Morgan to get up before I can open it and see what we have. At the moment there seems to be something new in...

Horns and Mohawk! 0

More of the Eyed Hawkmoth

There wasn’t very much exciting in the moth trap last night, so here are a few more photos of the Eyed Hawkmoth from yesterday just to show what a beast he was with his horns and mohawk!

Ceredigion Moths – Several New Garden Records

With rain forecast for later in the night I wasn’t sure whether to put the moth trap out, but in the end decided to risk it. It was fine in the end as I was up at 4am so able to get the trap in before it started raining properly. There was a nice selection...

A Hilly 45 Mile Bike Ride

I haven’t done any long bike rides for years. In fact we’re talking 20 years plus since I did anything over about 35 miles. Monday was a gorgeous day, warm, dry and sunny. I was on top of work (or didn’t have much on to be more precise) so set off on a nice little...

Aberystwyth & District Beekeepers Association Meeting

Amazon.co.uk Widgets Continuing my research and plans to start beekeeping, I attended a meeting of the Aberystwyth & District Beekeepers Association on Sunday. It was a gorgeous day for it, hot sunny and still. We met at a members house where she has a number of beehives – probably abut 15 , plus chickens, geese,...

Caterpillar on our Honeysuckle

I’ve just found a little caterpillar on the honeysuckle, looking for all the world like a little twig. Perfect camouflage, so much so that he almost got pruned along with the other dead twigs. Having looked through some books, it looks most likely to be the caterpillar of an Engrailed Moth.
