Caravan Holiday in South Wales

Despite the weather, we had a good time on our recent caravan holiday to South Wales.

We stayed at the huge Park Dean caravan site at Trecco Bay. Not normally our sort of thing but we had a cheap deal and it turned out good. The caravan itself was very modern and much bigger than I remember them. It was clean and comfortable and had all everything you could need. It was of course pretty cold but had heating in the bedrooms and the lounge soon warmed up once the fire and the cooker was on.

The site itself is huge with thousands of caravans all packed fairly close together but that does it mean that it has lots of a facilities. Plenty of places to eat and drink, loads of amusements and bingo type things, crazy golf, a nice swimming pool, dodgems, sports pitches and playgrounds and shops. Again, not the sort of thing we go on holiday for but it is handy having things to do on site as it means I can have the car to go windsurfing but Anna and Morgan can still wander off to the pool for a swim. Amusements aren’t our thing, but Morgan did enjoy playing on the 2p waterfall games!

The food was good as well. As we had such a good deal on the caravan (£80 for the 4 nights) we decided to go half board and have breakfast and dinner on site. Park Dean have their own restaurant on the site and you simply stroll up to it from your caravan and eat there. Good for breakfast, although it didn’t start until 9am which is a little late for me and the dinner was nice too. The menu was good, the food was good and there was plenty of it and the service was excellent. Not a lot more you could ask for really… Except maybe some slightly less colourful language from the chefs!

We didn’t really explore the local beaches due to the weather but had day trips out. We went to Techniquest in Cardiff on Tuesday and then I went windsurfing at Newton Bay. On Wednesday we went into Swansea and visited Plantasia, Swansea Museum and the National Watefront Museum and on Thursday we went to the Kenfig Dunes National Nature Reserve and then on to Margam Park.

All in all a good week away, it was just a shame about the weather.
