Tales from a down-shifted family
- Making the most of modest means
I had something of a re-run of this weekend, doing pretty much the same as I did last year. A Thursday evening drive to my parents house, a Friday morning drive to Bude. A Friday afternoon ride around the Bude Quad cycle course and a night in the camper. Saturday was time for the Bude Awesome...
Two Quadrathlons, a ‘mountain triathlon’ and a Cyclocross race in three weeks was always going to be a tough ask. Especially when the mountain triathlon was the Conwy Mountain Challenge and one of the Quads was the very tough Bude Awesome Foursome. I’ve survived though and had a great time too. Shrewsbury Quad was the first...
The Conwy Mountain Challenge was the second race of what will hopefully be four races in 3 weekends for me. The British Quadrathlon Trophy Series of races were a bit unevenly spaced this year with 3 weekends of races back to back. 2nd Sept – Shrewsbury Quad 9th Sept – Conwy Mountain Challenge 15th Sept...
Just a few of the official photos from Shrewsbury Quadrathlon last weekend.

Well, after rebuilding my fish tank last week, I left it over the weekend with very little water in it so that the sealant could fully dry. Today I refilled it gradually with water so as not to stress the fish too much and so that I could keep an eye on the structural integrity...
Once again, Anna’s birthday weekend fell on the same week as the Shrewsbury Triathlon and Quadrathlon. I was competing in the Quad so Anna was treated to a weekend away! See, I’m a true romantic at heart, taking my wife away for a family camping trip on her birthday and even swimming, kayaking, cycling and...
I’ve had a few issues with my Aquatlantis Fusion fish tank lately. As I mentioned back in February, the main brace that holds it together across the top of the tank had fallen off. I glued it back on, but as the tank had bowed a little there was quite a big (0.5-1cm) gap between...
Yeah, I’ve got a new design on my toenails…. Unfortunately the nails themselves aren’t in the greatest of shape, but you can see the design Anna was going for. They look pretty good, but would have been better on complete toenails. With back to back races over the coming 3 weeks and then the start of...
