Surf Ski with Insta360 and Back Bar

Seeing as my Insta360 camera mount didn’t quite work as hoped on my Surf Ski I wanted to try something different. Saturday dawned somewhat sunny with light winds and barely any surf. The perfect conditions to try something out! This time I thought I’d try wearing my Insta360 Back bar mount that worked so well for windsurfing.

I wasn’t sure how it would work on a surf ski, or if it would work at all but with nice benign conditions I could experiment if needed. Not that I ever do, once paddling I generally just keep paddling! Once on the beach I put on the back bar with the Insta360 X3 camera attached. It was a little uncomfortable with my buoyancy aid on as well but not too bad once adjusted a little. It became even more uncomfortable once in the ski though so some more adjustments were necessary. Once I’d loosened it a fair bit it was OK but not ideal.

I think it’ll work for playing in the waves, but for long distance endurance or speed paddles then I don’t think it’ll work. It tends to restrict breathing and rotation a little and puts you slightly out of position. Not a massive problem when just playing in the waves but not ideal when you’re looking more for speed, distance and performance. I stopped in Borth and took it off for a more comfortable and faster paddle back to Ynyslas.

The footage looks nice though so I think it’ll work in the waves which is more fun to watch anyway..

What do you reckon, does it look like fun? Next will be to try a better mount on the boat itself and probably a helmet mount too.

Hmm, I think most people would consider restricting breathing as a problem ?
    Lovely clear photos though
