Good Friday in the Garden

The Easter Bank holiday is finally here, so time for some rest and relaxation. Trouble with that was that the forecast was for a lovely Good Friday and then for things to take a turn for the worse with gales and rain forecast for the rest of the weekend.

There was lots to do in the garden and I was hoping to get on top of it over the weekend, so that meant there was only one thing for it and that was to make a headstart on the garden first thing on Good Friday.

I did a little bit of website work first thing in the morning and then some work on our weblog book as I couldn’t start making any noise in the garden too early. I actually waited for Anna to wake up so that I could take her coffee and hot cross buns in bed before heading outside. I of course had a hot cross bun too, but I had mine with bacon and maple syrup… Mmm Mmm.

There was plenty to do in the garden but by midday I was getting there. Anna and Morgan came out to help for a bit as well and then spent ages unsuccessfully trying to light a little fire in the chiminea. Almost all of the beds and borders out the back have now been edged, weeded, forked over and prepped for the summer. I’ve removed a few plants that were getting too boisterous where they were, and I’ve moved others so that they have a bit more room.

There is of course still plenty to do and I think a trip to to a garden centre for some new plants is in order too. The lawn needs some attention thanks to the fact that a mole (or possibly a whole family of giant moles!) has been doing its best to ruin it. I also need to buy and install a new pump in the water feature, sort out the borders along the fence and at some point tackle the front garden as well. Although I’m leaving that for now as we’ve decided to get Prys who sorted out our drive for us to dig up the entire area with his digger. Not only will that be 1,000 times quicker but it’ll save my back and will mean that he can take the waste material away as well. He’s coming out to finish off the edge of the drive with gravel anyway so I don’t think it’ll be a huge job with a digger, whereas it would take me forever by hand. Once that’s done, the fences will need replacing as well – busy busy busy, just like our bees were today.

After a Good Friday morning in the garden we headed off for a family walk in the sunshine.
