Jubilee Camp

Phew, we’ve survived the Ceredigion Area Scouts Jubilee Camp that took place in the grounds of Llanerchaeron house.. As new Scout and Explorer leaders this was out first camp with them and it all went well. It was of course a little hectic but there were plenty of activities for the children, including archery, catapults, a large trebuchet, tree climbing, bush craft, water zorbing and a tricky Jubilee Quest that Anna and I devised. There was also a Jubilee Dinner, fancy dress competition, Sedan Chair race, a ‘Queens’ Barge parade and plenty more things going on.

On top of all of that there was also the erecting of numerous tents, mess tents, kitchen tents, shelters, flags and the day to day camp tasks of cooking and clearing up to be done all of the time. It was lucky we took our spare tent as well as it was needed for some of the Scouts. Most people seemed to have a good time and as well as the Cubs, Scouts and Explorers who stayed for the whole weekend, the Beavers joined us for the day on Sunday as well.

We were quite lucky with the weather really as it was lovely when we (the leaders) set up on Friday Evening and still fine for the Cubs, Scouts and Explorers to put up their tents on Saturday. The weather was pretty miserable Saturday night and all day Sunday so everyone got a little wet, but it dried up again and we were able to strike camp and get everyhting cleared up in glorious sunshine so that everything went away dry.

Although Morgan is still only a Beaver he had to stay with us for the whole camp as a honorary ‘scoutling’! I even managed to sneak out on Sunday morning for a run (in the rain) and a swim at Aberaeron swimming pool, although I was feeling a little sore after very little sleep for a couple of days and a wide game the day before that had be running around the field with 200 cubs and scouts trying to catch me!

It looks like you had a great time! May I ask, where you hired the water zorbing from?

Sorry Alison, I’m not sure where they came from. It was another Scout group that organised that particular activity, but there are lots of companies that do Water Zorbing around.

Thanks. I wondered what firms covered mid Wales / at reasonable rates. Just a thought for a festival we had last weekend and hope to have next year.

As wet as the weather was, thankfully it wasn’t this weekend’s weather.
