What’s this Caterpillar?

Morgan and I found this caterpillar in the garden on Saturday. We’re not quite sure what it is though, possibly the caterpillar of a Grass Eggar Moth. Does anyone agree / disagree?

Out with the Moth Trap

We haven’t had the moth trap out much lately, and when we have there has been nothing in it. We put it out on Friday evening and despite pretty good conditions, the catch was still pretty small: 2x Early Grey 1x Common Quaker 2x Hebrew Character There have been quite a few shoulder stripes at...

A New Garden Species

Morgan suggested we put the moth trap out last night as it was the first day for ages without any wind. There weren’t loads of moths in it this morning, which is actually nice as it means that going through them is a little more relaxed, but there were 25 moths from 7 different species,...

Today’s Moths

A few more Moths

At last another break in the weather and some time to put the moth trap out. Once again I put it out without a sheet so the catch wasn’t huge but there were 44 moths in the trap this morning from 10 different species, including a Poplar Hawkmoth. 1 Pale-shouldered Brocade 6 Lackey 12 Heart...

Scarlet Tiger Moth

I just spotted this whilst out in the garden so snapped a couple of quick shots of it. It’s a Scarlet Tiger moth. It isn’t particularly rare or special, but who cares when it looks like this. You don’t have to be ‘into moths’ to appreciate the colours on this one.
