Crunching the Numbers: 2025 Sets a New Solar Record

The figures are in, the numbers have been crunched and… trumpets and fanfares… ta-da! 2025 was our best year of solar energy yield yet.

It was a close-run thing, and I genuinely didn’t think we’d beat the 2022 record. However, a few good solar days between Christmas and the New Year tipped the balance. Our total yield for 2025 came in at 4,559.96 kWh, just edging past the previous best of 4,559.71 kWh from 2022.

It’s only 0.25 kWh more, but a record is a record — and I’ll take it.

This ties in nicely with a Met Office news story yesterday reporting that 2025 was the sunniest (and warmest) year on record. It’s also reassuring to see that our solar panels are still performing so well as they head into their fifth year of operation, and haven’t lost too much efficiency despite being a bit older and, inevitably, a bit dirtier.

In fact, I think the savings we’ve made since installing them have now pretty much repaid the original installation cost — which makes this small new record feel even more satisfying.
