A Poor Solar Year

We don’t seem to have had much of a summer here this year. There has been the odd sunny day but no long spells of summery weather, and the solar panels know it! Sometimes it just feels as though the weather has been terrible but I thought I’d check the generation of the solar panels this year just to see how they compare to last years. The number never lie!

As you can see, January, February and March actually started out OK with slightly more production from the solar panels each month than in 2023. The actual output (shown in kWh) is fairly low at this time of year though so it didn’t make a huge difference.

As we moved into Spring and Summer, the outputs each month during 2024 have been lower than they were in 2023. May and June in particular were terrible in comparison to last year. That trend seems to be continuing into the autumn as well. Things drop off considerably during October, November and December, so by the time the year is out the monthly average will be well down on 2023.

The real question is: Was 2023 an unusually good year, making 2024 seem worse by comparison? Or is 2024 just a poor year, and we might see an upswing in 2025? Only time will tell.
