Looking Forward to A Spicy Valentines Day!

It looks as though Anna and I could have a Spicy Valentines day this year!!

We have to admit that we don’t usually do anything for Valentines Day simply because we can’t afford presents and bought cards are a rip off. We might sometimes make each other something but that’s about all. This year however Anna has bought us both a present in the form of a special Valentines Day Box from thespicery.com. It arrived yesterday stuffed full of herbs and spices and a couple of recipe cards.

I know Valentines Day isn’t for another week yet but we’ve opened it anyway so that we could see what other ingredients we’d need for the recipes, and it’s scents are already filling the house.

Valentines Day is next Friday and we’d usually be running the Scout Group on a Friday evening but as luck would have it we’ve arranged for the Scouts to meet on Saturday next week so we’ll have Friday evening to ourselves for a change and will therefore treat ourselves to a romantic (well, as romantic as we get!) meal together. Who knows, there may even be some subdued lighting, but I don’t think we’ll go quite as far as having Barry White music playing in the background.

There’s a recipe for a Valentines Curry which is apparently a light and fragrant South East Asian style curry seasoned with spices that are know for their aphrodisiac qualities. There’s even lime leaves, lemongrass and rose petals in the curry to add to the romance!

For pudding there is a Tahitian Vanilla Pannacotta with Strawberries and Rose Petal Syrup – again, vanilla is supposed to be an aphrodisiac too. Although I think we might need some chocolate sprinkles as well as you can’t really have a romantic meal without some chocolate. We’ll have to see how well we cope with making a pannacotta though.

There’s also a herbal infusion to make a tea containing rose hips, rose petals, elderflower, lemongrass, jasmine and lavender and I like the fact that they have included sachet called ‘A Breath of Fresh Air’ which contains a blend of sugar coated fennel seeds, ajowan and cardamon seeds to freshen the breath after the curry dinner – just in case the aphrodisiacs do their job I guess!

We’ll let you know how it all tastes after we’ve eaten it on Valentines Day
