Armed Forces Parade in Borth

As I’ve said before, when we took over as Scout leaders a year or so ago for Borth 2nd Scouts we were told that it would take up a couple of hours of our time on a Friday evening. If you are ever told that then it’s not true and once again yesterday evening we were out with the Scouts taking part in the Armed Forces Parade through Borth.

I’m not complaining as it was a lovely evening in Borth and good to see the Scouts, Beavers, Cubs and Explorers getting involved with the community. Anna was actually playing in the silver band that led the parade, Morgan was ‘marching’ with the cubs and I was there to supervise and organise the Scouts. Also marching were veterans of the armed forces, the cadets, the RNLI and for some reason that I have yet to fathom a biker on a trike!

We all marched from the railway station in Borth down past some dignitaries – I should have known who they were but I didn’t – and on to the Community Hall where there was a concert being held. I’ve since looked it up and the parade was actually the 90th Anniversary Royal British Legion and Armed Forces Day Parade and the ‘dignitary’ taking the salute outside the Railway Pub was the High Sheriff of Dyfed, J.T. Davies Esq.

There were quite a few people out lining the streets to watch and thanks to the weather it was quite a nice evening that didn’t take too long. The Scouts are getting used to us as leaders now as well and seem to enjoy the things we do with them and I think they secretly like having us as leaders – although I’m sure they won’t admit it. We have however had plenty of good feedback from the Scouts themselves, their parents and the rest of the Scout organisation, all of which is promising.
