Aberystwyth Triathlon
It’s take some organising (mainly by Sharon), but the first ever Aberystwyth Triathlon is on this weekend. Comprising of a 750m sea swim in the bay off North Beach, transition on the prom, a 30km ride up Penglais Hill, out to Tre Dddol and back and then a 5km run along the prom with a sneaky little surprise in the form of a nasty little hill up to the Golf Course and back, it should be quite a spectacle for Aberystwyth.
The weather could of course play a big part in the times and results, but it should be worth coming along to watch and support the athletes as they push themselves to their limits in search of glory or simply trying to cross the finish line.
This is the first year that INTRtri are running the event and it has a limit of 60 competitors but hopefully if all goes well and people enjoy it the event should become an annual occurrence and will grow in size. Not only is it good for the local triathletes, but as it grows such an event should draw in people from all over the UK and will therefore be good for Aberystwyth as a whole.
Lets hope for good weather and a nice spectacle of sport this weekend. Although, the current forecast isn’t looking great so we might be watching a battle of wills as the competitors fight it out with the elements rather than each other! At least the winds look as though they’ll be offshore so the sea should be super calm and the climb up Penglais hill will be sheltered – In fact it could prove to lead to some super fast times as the wind will help people back up the hill as well! It’s just the rain that might not be so much fun – especially for those of us not competing!
I shall be there organising the swim, marshalling and hopefully taking some photos whatever the weather. The photos will be posted here: Aberystwyth Triathlon Photos. Anna and Morgan will be helping out as well, time-keeping and handing out water.
