Ynyslas Fireworks
There was great excitement in Ynyslas this weekend. There was actually something happening in our sleepy little back-water. Someone had organised a commercial ‘fireworks spectacular’ to take place on Saturday night at Ty Gwyn. As well as a fireworks display there was going to be a large bonfire, indoor laser show and of course drinks and refreshments to buy.
We had already been to the fireworks in Machynlleth, had been to the Borth Scouts bonfire event last weekend and on top of that we couldn’t really afford the £5 entry fee as that would have been £15 for the three of us and no doubt by the time we’d bought food and drinks as well we would have ended up spending £25-30. Some of Morgan’s friends were going so Morgan wanted to go as well, but as we could’t afford it we compromised by promising to drive to the end of the road with some snacks and sit there in the car and watch from outside.
We chose a good vantage point, munched through our crisps and waited for the fireworks which started a little after 8pm. They looked pretty good but there weren’t that many of them with the whole display only lasting 10 minutes. I’m sure with the atmosphere inside the event it would have been much better than from where we were, but even so it would have been a fairly expensive 10 minutes had we paid to go in. From where we were, the show seemed pretty short and un-impressive compared to the one we’d been to in Machynlleth so all in all we were glad we spent out money on that one rather than the show in Ynyslas.
That isn’t quite the end of the bonfire festivities here though as Dave and Sarah are organising another bonfire party and fireworks night for later in the week, so Ynyslas will once again be alight with rockets, sparklers, whizzing, banging and of course plenty of ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’ from the onlookers.!
