Geocaching along the Ystwyth Cycle Trail

It was the last day of Morgan’s Half term yesterday – actually it was another inset day, but it was the last day that he was home with me. We had more geocaching planned and this time it was cycle-caching with a ride along the Ystwyth Trail.

We started at Rhydyfelin, rode up the little slope to Llanfarian, across the road and then out towards Llanilar along the cycle path. There are geocaches along here at almost half mile intervals so there were plenty of stops and all the caches were found really quickly. Each one was rewarded with a Vimto bonbon which kept us going and we seemed to be flying through them. Easy caches like this are quite nice when you have a specific route to follow as they keep you going and keep the interest up.

We stopped for a picnic and then continued along the cycle path to Crosswoood where we took a bit of a detour into Black Covert Woods for a final geocache. That was the 15th geocache of the day, taking us up to 51 in total for the half term, probably something of a record for us. We’ve now found 254 altogether.

We now had to turn around and head back, we’d already covered 8 miles so it was going to be a pretty long ride for Morgan. He made it all the way though and on the way back there were only one or two stops for drinks and a Mars Bar. I was pretty impressed by the fact that Morgan had managed to cycle 16 miles, especially seeing as he only has a little kids bike with tiny little wheels and no gears. Pretty good going and he seemed quite pleased with himself too.

Not a bad half term really. The fact that I don’t have much work on meant that I spent quite a bit of time out and about with Morgan and we had fun together. Back to school and work for us now though.
