Catching up with the rest of the World

Anna’s Mum was here for a few days, so as usual we made the most of the offer of a babysitter and organised a rare night out.

We went to see Avatar in 3D at the Arts Centre Cinema in Aberystwyth. The film was good, the special effects are of course pretty spectacular, but I don’t really see why there is quite so much hype about it. I’m no film buff but the story was predictable and exactly what you would expect from such a film, and the special effects were good but nothing that really made me go ‘Wow’. Maybe the hype meant that I was expecting too much but for me it was just another good film that was worth watching.

Not only was it the first time I’d been to the cinema in about 10 years, but it was also my first ever 3D film. The 3D effect is pretty good, but it did make me feel travel sick at times. At one point I felt pretty bad so had to sit there with my eyes closed for a minute or so to compose myself and prevent myself from vomiting over the person in front – I don’t think they would have appreciated that!

So, I have now seen Avatar, seen a 3D film and been to the Arts Centre cinema. What with that and the fact that I watched Slumdog Millionaire on the TV the other day I feel as though I’ve pretty much caught up with the rest of the world. If I carry on like this I’ll have to start wearing my trousers halfway down my bum so that people can see my pants!
