Enjoying the wet weather

Cwmystwyth MinesThe weather hasn’t been great and we had planned day out as a family along with Dave and Sarah from next door geocaching in the Welsh Hills on Saturday.

Saturday dawned particularly wet, but if you don’t do anything around here because it is raining nothing would ever get done so we set off anyway.

Dave and Sarah are new to geocaching so although they have actually found one cache before and failed to find another this was their first day out doing it properly. First stop was Nant-yr-Arian for a nice easy cache Morgan wanted to walk rather than sit in his nice snug pushchair, so although only 500m from where we parked it still took a while for us to get the to cache, log it and get back. Certainly plenty of tie for us to get very wet. We therefore headed straight to the visitor centre for cups of hot chocolate and to dry off a bit.

The next stop was a quick cache and dash at Elvis Rocks, I’d found it before so I handed Dave my GPS and let him and Sarah find it on their own. It didn’t take long and they soon returned to the car with the cache. We signed the log book, swapped geocoins and Travel Bugs etc. and then sat in the car having a picnic.

Next we headed off into the hill looking for the village of Pant y Dwr. I forgot to bring a map, so we didn’t have much success, but we did have fun driving up some slightly dodgy roads (I even had to use the 4 wheel drive on my new car!). We didn’t find Pant y Dwr but we did get close to the cache. The rain had stopped so we decided to walk to it from there. Dave was in charge of the GPS and took us on a bit of a detour but we got there in the end. Morgan is getting more and more independant and just wants to walk himself all the time, jumping in puddles and falling into the mud at every oppotrunity. I think he enjoys being outdoors doing something though.

Once the cache was found and logged we drive into Rhayader and then back to Aberystwyth along the mountain road through Cwmystwyth where we stopped to complete a ‘Earth Cache’. A good day out and the rain wasn’t a problem…. Although we might go to North Wales next weekend to buy some new coats and waterproof trousers!
