Morgan’s Travels
We don’t have huge amounts of detail, but I thought it was time for an update on Morgan’s travels. Since leaving here and flying to Japan in October, he spent a month or so in Tokyo, getting to grips with the culture, the food, the shopping, travel, and the general day-to-day life in a new country. He then flew north to the island of Hokkaido and started work in the Kiroro Ski Resort. He spent his time either working in the kitchens or on the slopes where there is some of the best powder snow conditions in the world. It was a great winter for it as well, with plenty of snow. It looked as though he had fun on the slopes and made plenty of friends.
Talking of friends, some of his friends from the UK then decided to visit him, so having saved up some money, he decided to stop working and travel around with them for a few weeks. First for some snow-boarding in Hokkaido and then back to the main island and some sightseeing and adventures in and around Tokyo again.
Once his friends left, he then flew south to Okinawa, an island known as the Hawaii of Japan due to its subtropical climate, white-sand beaches, coral reefs, and laid-back, island culture. He then decided (in his words) “to concentrate on fishing for a while”! I’m sure he’s been doing other things, but fishing seems to have been his main activity. He did start some running as well, and once again seems to have enjoyed Okinawa.
He’ll soon be flying west to the little island of Ishigaki, which looks to be more authentically Japanese than Okinawa. I’m not sure what his plans are whilst in Ishigaki, but a quick Google image search suggests that it might be quite nice there! Hopefully he’ll get to do some snorkelling in the tropical seas.
Ultimately, I think he’s hoping to continue travelling for a while before heading back to the main island in time for the opening of the trails up Mount Fuji so that he can climb to the summit.
It’s strange watching it all unfold from a distance, piecing things together from the odd message or photo, but it’s clear he’s making the most of the opportunity. A long way from home, but very much on his own path — and that’s probably exactly how it should be.
