Falling Apart
I don’t know if it is just my usual pre-race pains but I seem to be falling apart at the moment.
My left ankle is always sore. I tore some ligaments in it about 18 months ago and the soreness and aches used to come and go but recently they seem to be there all day long and get worse at night.
My right knee isn’t sore at the moment but I know that it’ll protest if it so much as sees a pair of running shoes. I tried running on it on Saturday but had to stop after 2 miles as it was hurting too much.
On top of this, yesterday during my swim my left shoulder started hurting – I’ve never had a shoulder injury before and have always relied on the fact that even if I can’t run / bike I’ll be able to get in the pool for a swim session. I don’t know what’s wrong with my shoulder and I haven’t really done anything to cause an injury but it clunks and clicks when I move it and felt fairly sore yesterday.
Aaaaarrrggghhhh! I’m falling apart.
I only have to hold it together for another month or so though. I have a race on Sunday, the Rother Valley Triathlon which is a qualifier for next years European Championships, and then I have the World Championship race in Auckland on October 22nd. Lets hope my body holds together until then so that I can compete well. I think I’ll treat myself to a month off afterwards though just to let all of the aches and pains melt away.
This isn’t quite what I had planned, I should be training hard at the moment and putting in some speed work but I just seem to be nursing my body through sessions so that I can at least make it to the start line. Not ideal preparation but it’s all I can do, and I’m just going to have to ‘wing-it’ on Sunday and hope for the best. Hopefully it’ll all be OK on the day – at least the adrenalin usually masks the pain.
