A New Car for Anna

Anna’s old Nissan Micra has gone, and has been replaced with a nice new (to us) Honda Jazz. We didn’t take months to decide on a car either this time.

Anna decided one day that it was time for a new one – her old one was very old and falling apart. She then popped into town that day had a look at a few and then took me with her the next day to take a look as well. At first she had her eye on either a Peugeot 107 or a Peugeot 207. I convinced her that the 107 was too small, but the 207 looked OK. It was a tiny bit bigger than her Micra, more modern and generally a nicer car. We had a test drive in it and it felt fine, but then as we were returning it I spotted a VW Polo and a Nissan ‘something’ on the forecourt in our price range – actually a little cheaper than the 207. We had no time to try them so Anna went back after work and gave them both a go.

The Honda ‘something’ turned out to be a Honda Jazz, not a car that either of us had heard of before but Anna preferred it to the 207 and the Golf so she bought it! It’s actually quite nice, not that I’ve driven it yet. On the outside it isn’t a lot bigger than her old Micra but there is tonnes of room inside, it’s actually a fairly big car compared to the others we looked at. It has a fairly high driving position, loads of headroom which adds to the roomy feel and plenty of space for 5 adults. It even has a decent sized boot.

Hopefully it will be just as, if not more, economical than her Micra as well and it will certainly be more comfortable, so we’ll probably use it a bit more as a family car. Until now, if we were going away for a weekend or even on a day out then we’d go in my big Mitsubishi Shogun simply because it was more comfortable and had more room than the Micra. The Micra was a bit of a squeeze at the best of times, but the Jazz should be  much more practical. It’ll be  lot cheaper to run than my Shogun so we really should try to use the Jazz for all but long camping trips where I need all of my toys… If we tried then I’m sure we could get the tent, camping stuff, bikes and windsurf kit in / on the Jazz but it might not manage to go anywhere once we did, so we’ll still need the Shogun for such antics.
