Hive Inspection Number 3

Things weren’t looking ideal for a hive inspection this weekend, strong winds, rain and a busy schedule were going to make things difficult. Saturday morning dawned warm(ish), fairly windy but with a gap in the rain so we quickly suited up and had a very quick inspection of both Clettwr and Leri.

We were lucky to fit it in when we did as the wind increased throughout the day then it poured with rain and this morning it is blowing a hoolie with 40-45 knot winds out there.

Both hives looked to be doing well, with plenty of stores. We saw both Ffion and Alice, the two queens and plenty of eggs, larvae and sealed brood. Both colonies have drawn out a little more comb then last week as well so it looks as though they are progressing well if a little slowly. There was no need to put the supers on yet and we shall continue to feed them, especially as it looks as though they are about to experience a typical, very windy week here at Ynyslas.
